Sir I note with interest an article in your current issue entitled "The Cost of a Home." I suggest, however that both the builder and your reporter have missed a cardinal point. Every item of material in that home carries a burden of taxation. The moment an axe is put to a tree or a mineral is laid bare, taxation (in the form of wage tax) commences. At every stage of handling or processing further taxation accrues. In the final assembly the biggest load of combined tax on labour, sale, and profit (if any) is added. . ■■■<,• Were it possible to compute this cumulative taxation, the total would stagger the people of this country, and go far towards explaining the exorbitant cost of a home and of other preSentneedS-^ m'u e S THE FACTS.
