F.A. TROPHY DRAW

WELLINGTON V. CANTERBURY P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 9.

Canterbury and Wellington played a drawn game, 2-2. at English Park for the English Football Association Trophy. Neither team showed as much combination as the best senior club teams in both cities have shown, but it was a fast, even match, with every player putting all he had into it. Beholding Wellington to a draw Canterbury retains the trophy. A special meeting of the' Canterbury Football Association executive after the game decided to accept for next Saturday a challenge issued to today's winner by Auckland.

! The Canterbury team today was probably the best that could have been selected, and little if any change in its composition if the Auckland eleven has to be played next week is expected. Of the forwards, A. Souter at inside right was the weakest, particularly in the first half. On the other flank, J. Smith and Dowker combined well, the latter scoring one of Canterbury's goals. The other was the work of G. Smith at centre. Both of Wellington's goals were scored by their centre-forward, J. McKinley, who played a solid game right through. * The teams were: — Wellington.—J. Fisher; J. Todd, J. Duffy; D. Nurms, I. Upchurch. J. Canute; R. Pi-ice, R. Nunns, J. McKinley. T. Walker, P. Tilyard. . Canterbury.—D. A. Mcßae; D. Gowans, P. O'Malley; C. Anderson, A.

Sutherland, J. White; R. Cullen, A. Souter, G.'Smith, J. Smith, R. Dowker. Mr. C. Sweeney was referee.
