SECURITY BUREAU
The Security Intelligence Bureau, which was established at the end of 1940. has now been closed down, said the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) this afternoon. "All documents held by the Bureau have now been transferred to the Police Department," said Mr. Fraser, "and the services of the few remaining members of the staff of this organisation who are at present engaged in clearing up and completing the records of the Bureau will be terminated at the end of September."
When a. separate Security Intelligence Bureau was established, it was controlled by Major K. Folkes, who had been lent from the War Office for the purpose. Major Folkes left New Zealand early in 1943, and the Commissioner (then Superintendent) of Police, Mr. J. Cummings, took charge of the Bureau.
