Rec 9 a.m. LONDON, September 9. German Protestantism is uniting more closely than ever before with a new social emphasis, representing a revolutionary reversal of the former sole emphasis on theology, said Mr. Hans Schoenfeld, of the World Council of Churches, on returning to London from Germany. Churchmen in Germany now recognise their responsibility for the social and economic structure. This new emphasis is especially true of Pastor Niemoller. Many, surprisingly, seemed to have swung from theological emphasis to the other extreme, and emphasised that there were such close relationships between genuine Christianity and genuine democracy that the German Church must recognise it. Mr. Schoenfeld added that the new view meant that laymen would have a growing role in the German Church. -
