PLANS OF U.S. NAVY

STRENGTH OF 1100 SHIPS

LONDON. September 7. A report from Washington says th« United States Navy is asking for a peacetime strength of close on 1100 lighting ships—Bo7 more than in prewar days. The j resent strength is put at about 1400 warships, in commission, authorised or under construction.

The post-war fleet, by far the greatest in the world, will include 18 dreadnoughts and 116 aircraft-carriers of various sizes. The navy proposals are to be placed before Congress on Monday.
