THE KOREAN LANDING
NATIVES LINE WATERFRONT
NEW YORK, September 9.
Lieutenant-General Hodges's 24th Corps in Korea is now getting its first look at the hermit kingdom which has been under the Japanese lash for nearly 40 years. Stolid natives lined the waterfront eyeing the Americans, who landed on the beaches in full battle array. The Japanese garrisons in this area were ordered several days ago to withdraw at least 12 miles from the Jinsen harbour.
When Japanese gendarmes fired on 500 Korean workmen who were marching to the dock to welcome the American occupation forces two Koreans were killed and 10 wounded.
