PUPPET LEADER READY TO BE SHOT
Rec. 9 a.m. TOKIO, Sept. 6. Jose Laurel, president of the Philippine puppet government, said: "If our people decide that I am guilty of treason, I shall be ready to be shot. They should try me alone, as those who worked with me were merely civilians who followed my. government's policies." When he was told that he was blamed for the destruction of Manila, he said: "Yamashita fooled me. He assured me that he would not defend Manila."
