THEFT FROM EMPLOYERS
"This came as a great shock to the Hindu community," said Mr. G. Kent when making a plea on behalf of Gosai Chhiba, labourer, 22, in the Magistrate's Court today after he had pleaded guilty to two charges of theft from his employers. Detective-Sergeant E. H. Compton stated that the accused had been man-powered to Pinchin Johnson and Co, (N.Z.), Ltd. Last March he took two gallons of paint, valued at £3 Bs, and on August 7 he took a drum containing four gallons of benzol. The property had been recovered from the accused's home.
His parents lived in India, . Mr. Compton continued, and arrangements had been made for him to return to India next week.
Mr. Kent stated that the paint had been made up by the accused from what he thought was waste material. He had taken the benzol to use in a car in which he intended to go to Palmerston North.
Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., convicted him and ordered him to come up for sentence within six months if called upon.
