TEACHERS' REFRESHER COURSES
Last year provision was made by the Education Department for the holding on a Dominion basis of refresher courses in social studies. Courses were held both at Feilding and Christchurch during the Christmas vacation _ for teachers of secondary, technical, intermediate, and district high schools. The courses were largely attended and proved successful in many ways. Ims year an extension of refresher courses on a Dominion basis has been planned. There is an advisory committee to the Director of Education which makes recommendations of courses, whilst there is an organising committee to make arrangements for the carrying out pi approved courses. One course already approved for 1945 is that of science, which will include teachers of Forms I and II as well as post-primary teachers. Although at least one other course on a Dominion basis is contemplated, provision has been made for various refresher courses on a local or area basis similar to thos-e which have been held in the past.
