BRITISH NAVAL V.C.

VISITOR TO WELLINGTON

A British naval V.C. was one of the passengers on the Orion which arrived in Wellington today. He was Lieutenant P. S. W. Roberts, V.C., R.N., who won his award with Petty Officer Gould on the submarine Thrasher in the Mediterranean in February, 1942. The Thrasher had been struck by a bomb which lodged in the casing of the submarine but did not explode, and Lieutenant Roberts and Petty Officer Gould removed the bomb under difficulties, not knowing when it would explode.
