EUROPE'S CHILDREN
APPEAL FOR TOYS
' UNRRA will welcome voluntary contributions of toys and recreational goods such as balls, quoits, swim suits, bats, and games, which-will not be met from official sources. These items are stated by relief workers to be of great importance, especially in displaced persons' camps, in helping to bring happiness to children. Writing materials have been exceptionally scarce, and stories are told of 500 children in a school without one single pencil, and registration cards without any ink or pen with which to fill them in. Response to the appeal for reci-ea-tional goods is already being made by groups of Gii-1 Guides, a V.M.C.A. boys club, Girls' Life battalions, and some refugee Allied nationals, while an individual recently donated five dozen of an appealing wooden toy. The Junior Red Cross Society members who are in most schools are doing magnificent work in making toys for overseas. The best specimens of these toys will be kept back for their national exhibition in October, but will be forwarded through CORSO to Europe after the exhibition. Donations of toys from the public for overseas may be given to the Junior Red Cross depots.
