WAIMANGU VALLEY

SIGNS OF ACTIVITY

AUCKLAND, This Day

O.C. AUCKLAND, This Day. There are signs of increasing activity in Waimangu Valley, the scene of the great geyser eruption in 1917. The activity was first reported by Mr. P. Muir, Government official at Waimangu. **-**,■_ Mr. Muir noticed that the water level in the Chasm, a deep crater about '50 yards north of-the old geyser, was rising, and a column of steam was rising hundreds of feet in the air. Inspection showed that the pool had risen fully 14ft and was pouring over the steep, rocky sides in a waterfall to join the stream that runs from Waimangu into Rotomahana.
