BIG REDUCTION ADVOCATED

NEW YORK, August 26.

Advocating. that the United States Fleet should be substantially reduced, Admiral Raymond Spruance, commander of the U.S. sth Fleet, said: "The only countries with major fleets are Britain and ourselves. We are certainly not getting ready to fight each other and I cannot see a situation arising where the British and American people would tolerate trouble.

"We cannot maintain the present size of the navy. It is too much of a draw on the country. . "Some modern ships will be only in reserve, some will be sold, and some scrapped." The Secretary of the Navy, Mr. James V.
