AUSTRALIAN TURF

ARRIVALS FROM DOMINION

(By Telegraph—Prass Association —Copyright.)

SYDNEY, July 24,

With competition from visiting New Zealand horses, spring racing in Sydney and Melbourne is expected to assume some of its former glory. Stenelaus, described as "the mystery horse from New Zealand," arrived in Melbourne yesterday after a rough trip. Eddy stone, Delano, and Degama arrived in Sydney recently. Sleepy Fox and a dozen more other New Zealand horses are booked for Australia. Beau Vits and Kindergarten were the last high-class performers to represent New Zealand owners in Sydney. Australian horses who are expected to be prominent contenders in the big spring races are now being stepped up in their preparations. Modulation, Bravo and Shannon have greatly improved in appearance and should be in great racing condition by the spring. Tea Rose and Flight are expected to return to their former greatness, and the champion fillies Jamelei, Courtship, and Civic Pride are likely to provide some fine race spectacles. The three New Zealanders mentioned in the above message were all shipped from the West Derby Stud, Levin. Eddystone (Tiderace —Oreum), who is a half-brother to Gold Rod and fullbrother to Aqueduct, had five outings last season as a three-year-old without being placed; Delano (Defoe —Matapahei) is- also 'of the same age, and has still to win, and Degama is presumably an unraced gelding by Tiderace from the Gustavo mare Swing, the dam being a sister to Tenorman, winner of the Mariri Hack and Hunters' Steeplechase at Trentham recently. Degama was not named prior to leaving New Zealand, and the nom-de-course has apparently been claimed in Australia since his arrival.—"Binocu-
