IVIID--WINTER SWIM
Yesterday 13 swimmers took part in the 50 yards handicap at the Te Aro Baths for the British Traders Insurance Cup, an annual event held on the shortest day of the year. The distance was one length of the baths and the temperature of the water was 49 degrees Fahrenheit, There were about 50 spectators. The race resulted:—G. L. Davidson (3seo), 1; Steve Dudson (lOsec), 2; A r Jackson (2sec), 3. There was two yards between the first and second men. and a touch between the second and third. The last man in was said to .be 80 years of age. Mr. P. McLean (baths custodian) acted as handicapper and starter. The cup, presented to the winner as he stepped out of the water, is held by him for a year, but a miniature remains his property.
