COUNCIL APPOINTH'^NT
The appointment of Colonel, Benjamin 'Barrington, 0:8. E., E.D., of Wellington,, as a full-time member of the Rehabilitation Board, and,of Mr. William Arthur Fox, of Wellington, to1 the National Rehabilitation Council, was announced last night by the Acting Prime Minister (Mr. Nash). Colonel Barrington returned to New Zealand earlier this year after five years" service with the 2nd New Zealand Division. He was commissioned in the Territorial Force in 1926, and served continuously with the Wellington West. Coast Regiment till seconded to the 2nd N.Z.E.F in 1939. In July of that year he had been appointed, to .organise the territorial recruiting ' campaign and the formation of territorial associations in the Wellington district. On the outbreak of war he was posted to Army Headquarters as staff officer to the Director of Mobilisation, and remained in that appointment till he left for overseas with the second contingent. After serving in England from June till September, 1940, he was appointed staff captain to the 6th Infantry Brigade, and served as such in the Greek campaign. In the 1941 Libyan campaign he served with the same brigade as brigade major. After qualifying at the Middle East Senior Staff College in Palestine, he was in May, 1942, appointed Deputy Assistant Quarter-master-General on the staff of Headquarters, New Zealand Division. From November of that year till he left the Division in Italy a few months ago Colonel Barrington, as Assistant Adjutant and Quartermaster-General, was responsible for administrative work of the Division in the field. During the battle for Cassino, with the temporary rank of brigadier, he acted as chief administrative officer to the temporary New Zealand Corps. 'Colonel Barrington was awarded the 0.8. E. and the E.D., was twice mentioned in dispatches, and also received the Greek decoration, the Exereton Praxeon. Before the war he was secretary to the Khandallah Progressive Association and the Khandallah School Committee.
Mi. Fox is a prominent member of the trade union movement. He is on the national executive of the New Zealand Federation of Labour and was one of the New Zealand representatives at the World Trade Union Conference held in London this year. Mr. Fox came to Wellington from Auck land in 1937 to take up the position of assistant secretary of the Federated Cooks and Stewards' Union of New Zealand. For the previous seven years he had been secretary of the Auckland Cooks and Stewards' Union.
