6373 LIVES SAVED DURING THE WAR

LONDON, May 23,
Lifeboats around Britain and Ireland were launched 3760 times during the war to help ships and planes in distress, and 6373 lives were saved. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution has awarded 204 medals for gallantry. Lifeboat men have also won four British Empire Medals, two Distinguished Service Medals, and one George Medal.
