BORNEO INVASION

ANNOUNCED BY MACARTHUR

LONDON, May 2

General Mac Arthur has confirmed the fact that Australian troops have 'landed on Borneo. They quickly established a bridgehead, and there has been no Japanese sea or air opposition.

i The landing was made on the island joiTarakan, the big oil centre off the [sxorth-east coast. It was protected by units of the U.S. 7th Fleet and war*«hips of the Royal Australian Navy.
