KELBURN TRAMWAY

NEW AWARD SOUGHT

The Kelburne and Karori Tramway Company applied to the Arbitration Court in Wellington yesterday for a new award to cover conditions of employment in its undertaking. The Court reserved its decision.

The matters remaining in dispute from earlier conciliation proceedings related to wages, and a counter-claim by the employees' union under the Rates of Wages Emergency Regulations. The union had always wanted to have its award embodied in an award covering the whole district, said Mr. P. A. Hansen (on behalf of the New Zealand Tramways Authorities Industrial Union), but had never been successful. The present application was a move on the part of the employees to continue the separate award.
