HAMILTON SEAT

PARTY SELECTIONS The Labour Party's candidate for the Hamilton by-election on May 26 is Mr. C. A. Barrell, according to'the "Standard." Mr. Barrell won the seat for Labour in 1935 and he held it until 1943, when he was defeated by Mr. Frank Findlay (National Party), whose death recently is the cause of the byelection. ■ It was announced in Wellington today that Mrs. Grace Hilda Ross was selected last night as the National Party candidate. Mrs. Ross is Deputy Mayor of Hamilton and was the first woman councillor in Hamilton. She was second to the late Mr. Findlay in the Hospital Board poll. Mrs. Ross has been an active worker in the Waikato children's health camp movement, and has been president of the Hamilton branch of the St. John Ambulance Nursing Division for the past 20 years. She has also been active in war work.
