SIR HARRY BATTERBEE
FAREWELL TRIBUTES Tribute was paid at the annual St. George's Day celebrations of the Royal Society of St., George last flight to the services of Sir Harry Batterbee, High Commissioner for the United Kingdom, who is about to retire from thai office in New Zealand. Presentations were made to Sir Harry of an illuminated address and a travelling bag, and Lady Batterbee received a framed sampler. "We feel that we are saying good* bye, to old friends," said the president (Mr. J. E. Hunt), who thanked S* Harry for the personal interest he: had taken in the society andJor the worthy manner in which he had upheld the dignity of his hiph office. Sir Harry and, Lady Batterbee had acquired 3 place in the affections of the people of New Zealand that had been equalled to • that occupied in recent years by Sir Charles and Lady Ferguson. Lord and Lady Jellicoe, and Lord and Lady Bledisloe.. "You have at all times acted as we would expect an English gentleman to act." said Captain S. K. Thompson. "« saying that I can pay you no iugner compliment." Mr..W. Hustler Smith, after paying tribute to the departing guests, calico upon the'gathering to sing "For Tney Are Jolly Good Fellows." ■ will always treasure these presents." said the High Commissioner. i» reply.
