CASE OF GAS-POISONING

The death of Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Rodgers on March 13 was investigated -by Mr! W. G. Mellish, Coroner, at Petone on Tuesday. Her body was found by her daughter, who had returned from a dance after midnight, lying in an empty bath. Evidence was given that the pipe from a gas caliphont in the bathroom did not quite reach the vent hole in the ceiling. The medical evidence given by Dr. P. P. Lynch gave the cause of death as carbon monoxide poisoning. The Coroner said that possibly the fumes generated when the bath was used earlier in the evening had commenced the accumulation of fumes in the room, the door and window being closed, and it had increased when the deceased used the bath. After letting the water out she had risen, and had been suddenly overcome. The finding was that death was due to accidental poisoning by carbon monoxide Mr. F. W. Ongley appeared for the owner of the building.
