DEATH OF LORD DUFFERIN

Rec. 9 a.m. BOMBAY, April 5. Lord Dufferin was killed in Burma while attempting to broadcast a psychological warfare message to the Japanese from a front-line position in the Letse area. 32 miles south-west of Pakokku, on March 25, says the special correspondent of the Australian Associated Press. Lord Dufferin left a forward position and advanced with his psychological warfare section towards the Japanese dug in on a feature 500 yards from our line. They had advanced half-way when a party of Japanese, whose presence was unsuspected, opened fire at almost point-blank range, fatally wounding Lord Dufferin.
