COAL STOPPAGES IN U.S.A.

WASHINGTON, April 6.

The War Labour Board has warned Mr. John Lewis that unless the stoppages in approximately 200 bituminous coalmines end promptly, the Government will have no alternative but to seize and operate the mines concerned. The blast furnaces of some steel mills have been forced to close. Others will probably close within the next 24 hours unless full coal production is resumed.
