ATTEMPTED ARSON CHARGES

George Henry. Ryan, barman, 53, who was charged in the Magistrate's Court on Tuesday with two charges of attempted arson, pleaded not guilty after the hearing of evidence for the prosecution, and was committed by Mr. A. A. McLachlan, S.M., to the Supreme Court for trial. The charges were.that on February 27 he wilfully attempted to set fire to the dwelling-house of Richard John Phillips, and that, on the same day, he wilfully attempted to set fire to the house of Eneas John McParland. Detective-Sergeant E. H. Compton conducted the prosecution.
