MASSED BANDS FESTIVAL
Although they give Sunday afternoon performances in rotation, Wellington's bands are seldom seen together on parade, and special interest therefore is aroused by the announcement that no fewer than 13 brass and pipe bands' •will take part in the massed bands festival at the Basin Reserve next Sunday afternoon. All Wellington bands will take part, as well as several from Hutt City. The trumpeters of the Wellington Technical College A.T.C. will also be on parade. For most people, the inspiring music of brass bands on parade provides a thrill, to say nothing of the skirl of the pipes and the swinging of sporrans as the "Kilties" gp by. At the festival next Sunday a composite Highland pipe band of 100 players will provide a splendid spectacle, while an equally large composite brass band will be heard in popular marches and the ever-stirring "Land of Hope and Glory." The bands will also give individual performances. Given fine weather, this festival is expected to attract a large crowd,
