PALMERSTON NORTH FIRE

The Minister of Defence (Mr. Jones) announced today that the Government had decided that a Coroner's inquiry should be held into the fire at the Showgrounds, Palmerston North on the night of December 31 last ' Th£. in(iuiry would be conducted by Mr- H. P. Lawry, S.M., at Palmerston North, on March 8 and 9, and would be open to the Press and the public

The fire is that which destroyed large quantities of military material stored in the Manawatu A. and P. Association's exhibition halls at the showgrounds.
