CIRCUS OFFICERS SENTENCED
Rec. 11 a.m. NEW YORK. February 21 Three officials of the Ringling Brothers-Barnum and Bailey Circus and three circus men received gaol sentences today for involuntary manslaughter in connection with the circus fire last July in which 168 lives were lost.
Superior Court Judge Shea; at Hartford, Connecticut,,sentenced the general manager, George Smith, and the chief tent man, Leonard Aylesworth, to from two to seven years, the vicepresident, James Haley, to from one to five years, and others to from six months to a year. The Judge also fined the circus company 10,000 dollars. The Court stayed the execution bf the sentences until April 6 to permit the defendants to get the 1945 show started at Madison Square Garden, New York, on April 4. Claims aggregating 803,000 dollars have been settled, but many more are outstanding.
