BETTER. RELATIONS

CHIANG AND COMMUNISTS

Rec. 11.30 a.m. CHUNGKING, Dec. 6,

The Chinese Minister of Information, Mr. Wang Shih-Chieh, confirmed the statement that new proposals aimed at composing existing differences had been exchanged with the Chinese Communists, but did not disclose the details of them.

The United Press says that the crack Chinese troops which are reinforcing Kweichow came from the armies which have been blockading the Communist regions in north-west China for six years.

Observers in Chungking consider that this indicates improved relations between the Chungking Government and the Communists.

The Chinese High Command announced that after driving the Japanese from Pachai appreciable progress had been made in pursuing the retreating enemy southwards.

Despite the deprivation of its best bases, American air force headquarters announced that its planes sank or damaged 16 Japanese freighters in farreaching sweeps. One vessel was sunk, two left sinking, and eight damaged on the Yangtze River. Others were hit off Shanghai, west of Formosa, and in Amoy harbour.

The Fourteenth Air Force also attacked Japanese troop movements in the Indo-China border region, where the enemy is poised for a potential thrust towards Yunnan.
