This afternoon their Excellencies the Governor-General Lady Newall visited the Lyall Bay School, and on behalf of the Navy League his Excellency presented a Union Jack to the school. Captain the Honourable D. E. A. Wmn was in attendance. .

The Rev. M. Underhill has been appointed organising secretary of the Peace'Thankoffering Appeal Fund. Mr. Underhill is expected to return shortly from overseas duty as chaplain to the Forces in the Middle East.

Acting under medical advice, the bishop of the diocese has : cancelled all engagements and will be absent for two months from Wellington, states 'Church and People." The remaining confirmations on the bishop's list will be taken by the Bishop of Nelson.

The Rev. Nigel Williams, assistant chaplain of Wanganui Collegiate School, expects to take up his duties as vicar of Marton early in the NewYear. The Rev. H. D.. Rosenthall is acting as locum tenens meanwhile. A son of the late Bishop Herbert Williams, the new vicar served for six years in the Malay States and was chaplain of St. Andrew's Cathedral, Singapore.
