MR. J. H. BLOCKLEY
A well-known resident of Wellington Mr John Henry Blockley, died at the Wellington Public Hospital recently after a short illness. Born in Birmingham, England, in 1870 he came to New Zealand with his parents in the sailing ship Douglas in 1874. He was educated at. the Mount Cook School and Mr. Merrick's private school Later he was apprenticed to the upholstery trade with the late Mr George Tiller, Manners Street. In 1890 he married Miss Emily Cameron, of Timaru. With his wife, he took .up residence m Palmerston North where he was in the furnishing business for hl V +oal years;- In his younger days he took an active part in the Newtown Kifles, and was a member of the Wellington Naval Reserve, under the late Captain Duncan. Old friends will remtr; t him b- 9st as an entertainer and baritone singer. He was also keenly interested in band music and ™a ?\ em£ e£ of several well-known North Island, bands. Mr..
