DEATH OF JUDGE
. WASHINGTON, December 1. The. Chief Justice of the District of Columbia District' Court. Mr. Justice Eicher^ who. has been presiding over a pro#ac_ted sedition trial, died. last nights A~:< ■-■ :■■., ■.
: The commenced last I Aprils 30 defendants were i2^"B^ l-0^ conspiring to spread dis- ■; affection in the American armed forces ; and establishing a Nazi form of government in the United States. One "defendant died during the trial and two .Qthers were dismissed from the proceedings which at the outset were marked .by uproar, leading to six attorneys and one-defendant being fined 1220 dollars for contempt of court.
Recently the proceedings were confined to an afternoon session to enable the defence lawyers to carry on their own--practices. Most have been serving ..without fee;
The Justice Department said that the Judges death means a new trial must begin.
