FIGHTING IN CITY
HUNGARIAN DISCONTENT
(U.P.A. and 8.0. W.) Rec. 11.30 a.m. LONDON, Nov. 26. Hungarians fleeing from Budapest to Russian-held territory report discontent in Budapest with the Szalasi regime, states Reuters Moscow correspondent. "Red Star" quotes refugees for the news that street fighting is taking place in Budapest.
The paper declares that Szalasi's officers, in order to prevent desertions, are shooting every tenth man of any company from which a single soldier deserts. The correspondent adds that it is too early to suggest a general Hungarian collapse, but the rot undoubtedly has begun and may give an unexpected turn to the drawn-out battle for Budapest.
Stalin, in an Order of the Day addressed to General Petrov tonight, announced the capture of the Czechoslovakian towns of Humenne and Michalovce.. both north-west of Uzhqrod. They are important communication centres and enemy strongpoints.
. The Moscow correspondent of the Associated Press says that the fighting along the Baltic coast and also in the Danube basin is at present on a much smaller scale than the actions of the Allied armies on .the Western Front.
BATTLE ON BALTIC
"Pravda" states that the Russians are continuing their battle of annihilation against the German forces trapped on the Baltic coast. The German news agency commentator Major yon Hammer claimed that the German forces in western Latvia had succeeded in splitting the Russian offensive into fierce local engagements , and cleared all the Russian penetrations into the main German battle lines.
The Balkan Air Force again attacked the Germans who are still surrounded in the Scutari-Podogorica area in Yugoslavia, writes a correspondent in Italy. Hits were scored on buildings where the Germans were taking refuge. So far all attempts to break out have failed.
Except for fighter-bombers, which cut the railway tracks in 14 places, bad weather prevented air activity.
