CAR STRIKES LAMP-POST

Mr Carroll Bernard O'Donnell a well-known Wellington solicitor and senior partner m the firm of O'Donnell Cresswell and Cudby, was killed instantly when his car collided with an an ™1? I mp:postoutside the entrance of lSft n^ n railway station at 11.15 last night. The car was badly wrecked the engine being driven back into the bodywork, and it appears that Mr. O Donnell s neck was broken when the steering wheel struck him on the jaw bo lar as has been ascertained at present, there were no witnesses of the accident.

Mr. O'Donnell was about 47. He was born at Hawera and educated at the Convent School there. St. Patrick's College, Wellington, and Victoria University College. He became managing clerk to Mr. H. F. O'Leary, and oni his admission as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court in 1918 entered into practice, first on his own account and then in partnership with, Mr. T P Cleary. Later he entered -into partnership with Messrs. Cressell and Cudby, but had not been in active practice for some years. He earned wide respect for his abilities and generosity, and was highly popular both in business and private life In recent years Mr. O'Donnell had spent considerable time in Australia, where he had business interests. He leaves a wife but no family. The Rev. Father W. E.
