Stated by his counsel to have completely "lost his head" on the brink of matrimony, a 33-year-old engineer was sentenced to 12 months' for bigamy at Chester. The accused, said the prosecution, arranged on the same day to marry two women. He married one of them, and lived with her for three months. Then he went through a wedding ceremony with the other. He said he decided not to go through with his marriage to the first girl, but on going to her home he found the bridesmaids all ready to go to church, and had not the heart to stop the ceremony. The Judge said to him: "Your conduct exhibits a degree of cowardliness and flippancy which is almost unheard of."
