BUSINESS BRISK
ISSUE OF RATION BOOKS
Big business was done yesterday in V!L S£KS the new ration books, and 12,992 were issued in the Wellington area (not including Lower Hutt and Petone). They included 6700 books issued at the temporary rationing office m Grey Street, where, as indicated in "The Post" yesterday, applicants queued up all day. The suburban money order offices, open between 7 p.m and 8.30 p.m. for issues of ration books, also dealt with a continuous stream of applicants last night Business was brisk again today, and it was a matter of satisfaction to officials to find so many people calling early for their ration books. There appears to be some doubt amongst womenfolk as to which Social Security book has to be produced in applying for the ration-book issuesit is the latest issue of the woman's Social Security book (1945) that is required.
It is anticipated that the supplementary staff engaged at the G.P.O will be engaged for a' fortnight in the issue of new ration books. Attendants are at hand outside the counter to advise the public how to fill in their application forms, and should be consulted, in case of doubt, to avoid losing place in a queue after a long wait. The shortest queue does not always provide the speediest service, as it may contain more than one person with a number of books.
