OVERCROWDED COLLEGE
The inadequate accommodation in the Hutt Valley Memorial Technical College was again discussed at the monthly meeting of the Board of Managers. The report of the principal, Mr. A. McFadyen, stressed the need for chemistry, general science, and mechanical laboratories. The room being used as an assembly hau. would not hold the pupils now attending the college; the assembly ceremony had to be held in the open and was not possible at all in wet weather.
The board had before it a letter from the Minister of Education acknowledging the need of additions, but stating that at -present labour and/materials were not available. .
It was decided to bring the matter before the Minister again and to advise him that unless accommodation was provided before the college opened in 1945. the board might have to turn pupils away. . : : The board gave sympathetic consideration to an application by -the Grocers' Association for the special training of. assistants. in the grocery trade, and advised the association that accommodation for new classes was the present difficulty.
