AWARD OF C.B.E.
O.C. TROOPS ON ORANJE
His Excellency . the GovernorGeneral has announced that the King1 has been pleased to approve the. appointment of Colonel Jacobus Cornelius Gerards, Royal Netherlands Army (Medical Service), to be an Honorary Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (C.B.E:), Military Division, in recognition of valuable services rendered in connection with the repatriation of sick and wounded personnel of the New Zealand and Australian Military Forces from the Middle East.
Colonel Gerards has been officer com- ' mandmg troops on the Netherlands < Indies hospital ship Oranje since that ship was commissioned. In the many voyages of the Oranje to New Zealand the staff of the hospital ship has given painstaking service in the care and • comfort of the sick and wounded. In this connection the personal attention, of Colonel Gerards has been butstand-' ing and, his many friends in the New Zealand Forces will be pleased to learn of the distinction conferred on him. In December last the master of the Oranje, Captain B. A. Potjer, received a similar award. . '
