FATE OF PAOCHING

COMMUNICATION LOST

Rec. 12.30 p.m. CHUNGKING, Oct. 5. Communication with Paoching has ceased, states a Chinese communique, thereby virtually acknowledging the fall of that very important position on the right flank of the Japanese advance towards Kweilin. Meanwhile the Japanese have been heavily reinforced at Changning, where street fighting is mounting in intensity. The Chinese are still holding the Japanese in check six miles east of JToochow.
