a, Preparations for the coming cricket season in Wellington were advanced by the newly-elected management Alcorn- ' niittee of the Wellington j Cricket Association last night, it being, decided that entries for the competitions be received up to 4 p.m. on Monday' next iand that the season be opened officially S? ,P ctober 21. Two special matches, Wellington v. Hutt Valley, and Cqlts v. The Rest, were fixed -for Labour Day (October 23), both to be played at the Basm Reserve. With regard' to ad- • mission to the Basin Reserve-it was - agreed that the charge when'"' inter--club matches were being played there " should remain at 6d. - Mr. J. D. Hpwitt "was re-elected chairman and was also appointed to represent the association at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council, on which Mr; H. North (of* Christchurch) was made the association's delegate. Mr. W. A. Baker was appointed selector of Wellington teams for the matches on Labour Day, Mr. R. Stehr the Hutt Valley team selector, and Mr. J. A. Standidge selector of the colts team, as well as the association's representative on the Umpires' Association. Sub-committees • were set up as follows:—Senior -championship, Messrs.. ,w-A-Baker, B. Pegler, J. A. Standidge, and G. L. Whyte; junior championship, Messrs. L. J. Brabin, R. W. Peacock, J. A decision regarding the reintroduction of the six-bail over, was deferred until the question' had been discussed at the annual meeting of delegates to the New Zealand Cricket Association, the eight-ball over to continue in. operation in the meantime. A grant of £7" 7s was made to the Wellington Umpires' Association. The Canterbury Association wrote - stating that its" management committee was agreeable to the scheme outlined ' by the Auckland Association for interprovmcial matches for the coming season. Under this scheme .the Canterbury team would be travelling to Auckland for a game at New Year, and Wellington would be going to Dunedin. The Canterbury Association suggested that perhaps a game .could be arranged between -Canterbury and Wellington at Christchurch or Wellington when- the two teams were returning; from Auckland and Dunedin ■ respectively. If this could be arranged, Canterbury were suggesting to Auckland, that their game with Auckland should start a day earlier, on December 29, and this would give an extra day for the proposed game between Canterbury and Wellington. As Canterbury played in Wellington last year, Canterbury . preferred that this game should be played at Christchurch, but if this did not fit in with Wellington's arrangements, a two- or three-day match at Wellington, would suit Canterbury.
