Broadfoot (National, Waitomo). . .Mr. Fraser said that in the main this .'phase of the campaign had been an outstanding success, and .a large majority'of the appeals had been responded to in a most generous and public-spirited manner. Naturally, the full financial and other circumstances .of the people to whom such appeals had been addressed were not always known, and,' unfortunately, in some instances people had been approached in error. He knew that telegrams had been sent t& people whose addresses, had been changed and also telegrams had been sent to people who had already subscribed heavily. Some of those 'people had subscribed again, but others had indicated politely that it would v be a big strain upon them to do anything more, but if it was absolutely necessary 1 they would endeavour to"itiake a further subscript tion. On the whole, the appeals, had been, accepted ih the right and proper spirit, and to those who had responded he would like to express the Government's thanks and appreciation.
