END OF THE WAR
ALONG WAY OFF
MR. FRASER'S OPINION
°-£L AUCKLAND, This Day. "Tho recent speech by Mr. Churchill should convince us all that the end of the war is not a matter of weeks,"' said the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) when addressinjg an informal gathering at Ngai'uawfthia on Saturday in' the course of his visit to the Waikato.
Those who anticipated an armistice in the next few weeks and who expected to see Allied troops sweep on to Berlin will be disappointed," he said. "We must all realise that there will! be much hard fighting before peace is achieved. There can be no doubt as to the eventual victory, but it will not come, for some time yet in Europe, and after that there is Janan. "It would be a blot on the escutcheon of New Zealand if we failed to fully subscribe to the Victory Loan, and it would be letting our fighting men down. Instead of slackening off, now is the time to intensify our efforts."
