CAUGHT IN FOREST
82 ENEMY TANKS KNOCKED
OUT Rec. 12.40 p.m. - LONDON, Sept. 29. The Americans who seized high ground in the forest of Paroy yesterday knocked out 82 German tanks, many .of which were caught as they attempted to flee from the forest, says Reuters correspondent with the American Third Army. He adds that the Third Army has knocked out 1184 tanks since August 1.
The air attack against the forest was the heaviest yet made by. the Allies in the Moselle area. The Germans in the forest of Paroy, before being pushed back, put up fierce resistance and carried out four major counter-attacks and numerous small attacks.
The American Third Army has captured nearly a million tons of German explosives in France, and therefore the enemy has been' forced to use bombs and shells for demolition .charges on bridges, says a correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain on the Moselle front. The Argonne forest has yielded the biggest haul, 700,000 tons, complete with fuses and caps. ■
