Counter-Attacks By The Germans

■■.-■■■.. • ■ LONDON, September 29. The Germans are launching' more or less continuous counterattacks against the steadily expanding' British salient in Holland. Most of these attacks are coming- from the area south-east of fNijmegen. Yesterday three of them were smashed, but in one attack today the Germans made a slight gain against American troops ■and British tanks.

i ".. The Luftwaffe lias been out in greater strength today over the fNijmegen area, trying to destroy the vital bridge across the Waal ,at Nijmegen. The Germans have managed to' land only one or ftwo bombs nearby, and have paid a heavy price. Canadian pilots shot down 22 of the German planes.
