QUOTA EXCEEDED
PATRIOTIC APPEAL
An announcement that the Wellington metropolitan patriotic quota of £87,876 for the year ended today had been exceeded by nearly £5000 was made yesterday by the honorary secretary of the Metropolitan Patriotic Committee, Mr. Vincent Ward.
On behalf of the committee, Mr. Ward expressed appreciation to all those who had played their parts in bringing about the excellent result.
"I shall not mention any particular individuals or organisations, ' but in general tei*ms express appreciation to business firms, professional men, employees, Public Service staffs, suburban committees of the Joint Council of the Order of St. John and the Red Cross Society, local bodies, helpers on street days, and the Government for assistance through trading departments and subsidy on the profits of patriotic race meetings, sporting events, and entertainments of all kinds, to the organisers of which we are greatly indebted," said Mr. Ward.
The people of Wellington have every reason to be proud of the way they have given to patriotic funds, but we will still have to carry on the good work as long as our men are fighting for us. I hope the people of Wellington who have so generously given to patriotic funds will also lend their money to make the Victory; Loan a real success." :
