TORPEDOED LIBERTY SHIP Rec. 10.45 a.m.

WASHINGTON, September 25. The Navy Department announced that an enemy submarine torpedoed a Liberty ship off North Carolina early this month and that two coastguard cutters escorted the stricken ship until the hurricane fo September 15 struck, parting the towline and capsizing the cutters, with heavy loss of life. The navy dispatched additional tugs, rescued the ship, and reached Norfolk safely. There were no casualties on board the Liberty ship, and the cargo was only slightly damaged v The Liberty ship was on its maiden voyage.

LONDON. September 24 Mr. Churchill is back from Quebec. He arrived today accompanied by Mrs. Churchill. The journey both ways was made in the Queen Mary.
