A torpedo from an American su.'bmarine sank -a Japanese transport laden with 750 American prisoners of war off Mindanao Island on September 7," says Tokio official radio. All the American prisoners and the Japanese crew shared the same fats as the vessel. A similar disaster occurred off Sumatra on June 26, when 720 American prisoners were rescued and 180 wer* drowned.
