GRIS-NEZ TO GHENT

Rec. 1.30 p.m. LONDON, Sept. 17 Reuters correspondent says that the Canadians attacked Cap Gris-Nez and are tightening the noose around the strong-point. Another Canadian force has moved closer to Dunkirk, occupying Bergues, three miles to the southeast. The Germans abandoned Bergues during, the night. The perimeter of the Dunkirk defences has been narrowed considerably in the past 24 hours. There is still fighting at Zeebrugge; the Canadians, are on one side and the Germans on the other. More Canadian armoured vehicles have improved their positions on the Leopold Canal, south-east of Bruges. The Poles.are in Holland in' fair strength north of Ghent, and are cutting the road between Hulst and Axel. They are over the Hulst Canal. There Is still fighting in the northern outskirts of Ghent.

A suburb of Boulogne has been capiured, and the attacking force is reported, to be. at the outer defences of the town. 'The Canadian' troops are

pressing home their assault on the German garrison. They have penetrated part of the fortifications and are making towards the harbour.
