NEW YORK, Sept. 1.

ToMo radio announced that General Naosaburo Okabe, former president of the Military Staff College, and at one time Japanese military attache in Poland, has succeeded General Neiji Okamura as supreme commander of the Japanese army in North China. The Chinese have* captured enemy strong-points in two temple areas in southern Tengchung, and have also partly occupied strong enemy positions outside the south-east city -gate, says a Chinese communique. After fierce fighting the Chinese advanced slightly south and south-west of Lungling. The Chinese, using American flamethrowers, successfully attaaked pillboxes at Sungshan, killing 150 Japanese.
