HIGH POLISH HONOUR
A high Polish military decoration, the Order of Virtuti Militari, has been awarded to Flight Lieutenant Stanley George Culliford, of Norsewood, Hawke's Bay.' He is the second New Zealand airman to receive this decoration, the first being Wing Commander A. H. C. Boxer, D.F.C., R.A.F., of Nelson, who received it last year. Culliford, who is a son of Mr. and Mrs. A F Culliford, of Norsewood, has Since' the battle of El Alamein been attached to Squadron 267 of the R.A.F. This squadron, which was engaged in transport flying, followed the Eighth Army to Tunisia, and operated in the Sicilian invasion, and then in Italy. The Order of Virtuti Militari, established by King Stanislas Augustus in 1792, and revived in 1919, has five classes. While the first class is awarded to victorious generals, other classes are awarded for outstanding bravery in the field. General MacArthur has received this award in the first class. .
